It comes as a surprise to many people to learn that it is important for them to clean their washing machine to keep it running in top condition. After all, the machine is designed to clean, so it should be able to keep itself clean, right? Well, no, actually not. If your washing machine has been having issues operating, cleaning out the built-up mold, hard water remnants and soap scum residue can go a long way in solving your problems
If your washing machine hasn’t been getting your clothes as clean as it used to, the first thing you should do is clean out the drain pump filter. The drain pump filter is used to filter out debris such as lint, loose change and other small objects that could get into the inner workings of your washer and cause greater problems. If your washing machine has been draining slowly, or is displaying error codes (if your machine has a digital display), the chances are pretty good that the pump filter for the drain has been clog
o clean out the filter, remove any excess water for the filter by removing the hose and draining the water into a tray or a pan. Then reattach it. The next step is to remove the filter. Typically, you will rotate the knob in a counter clockwise direction until the filter comes loose. Once the filter is free, clean out the filter by removing any lint and other excess debris. Once the larger pieces have been removed, rinse the filter out with warm water and reattach it. Make sure that you don’t use a sharp or metal object to clean out the filter; this could cause you to weaken the filter,

When cleaning out the wash tub, you should use either washing machine tub cleaner or liquid chlorine bleach to achieve the best results. If you decide to use liquid bleach to clean out the washer, you’ll just add the bleach to the detergent tray and start your washer’s Tub Clean cycle.
